We were nothing, but some school & college students, spending most of our time in a rush. But then one sunny morning we notice the excessive wastage of food in our area and suddenly we realise that in the same city, some people sleep with empty stomachs and on the other hand lots of food is wasted recklessly. And it was not a single incident, it’s happened recurrently. From that day, we decided to stop this type of waste and start to collect this extra food and distribute it among those people who really need it.

The Idea: With the philosophy of ‘it does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.’, we incessantly started moving ahead and initiated our work.

That was the beginning of our journey, afterthat Kerala was devastated due to uncertain floods in 2018. Inundating several villages and the people were forced to evacuate their own homes and take shelter on higher lands. For the first time we raised funds from the public and sent that amount to these waterlogged villages.

That was the time a new idea sprouted in the form of ‘Naba Dishay Matribhumi ’. We don’t have any expertise or experience, but we have zeal, passion and motivation to bring social change.

Then one by one it became our sole aim to help distressed people to be by their side. We arrange so many free medical check-ups camp, Blood donation camp, Blood group test camp, awareness camp about menstrual hygiene & distribution of sanitary napkin, awareness camp about thalassemia, tree plantation programme etc. Along with the distribution of food, new clothes are distributed in Durga Puja and woolen clothes in winter. We organised Bastra Mela in the underdeveloped area of Bankura and to help the potters of Bankura we sold their handmade lamps during Kali Puja.

Since 2018, Matribhumi has continued this journey. So far, Matribhumi is an organization registered under the Society Registration Act under West Bengal. Basically, Matribhumi is a unit of social work for those who believe that ‘intelligence and experience for social work is not required but should have empathy and kind heart and working within communities can bring the change’. Our motto is “With the people, For the People”.

We are now trying to spread in every areas in West Bengal where the help is needed for the society well being.
